The theme of this conference is inspired by the recent research of a consortium funded by the Asia Pacific Observatory on Health Systems and Policies (APO) of the World Health Organization, in which Prof Alex He is a member. Integrating various care sectors for the vast elderly population has become an increasingly important policy issue in many East Asian societies, in light of increasing multi-morbidity and fragmentation of the care provision systems.
Despite the daunting challenges, several innovative models have emerged in this region, calling for in-depth discussion among policymakers, practitioners, and researchers. This conference seeks to provide such a platform for scholarly exchange and stakeholder engagement. We intend to invite delegates from Hong Kong SAR, Mainland China, Singapore, South Korea, India, Japan, and Taiwan to join this conference. Senior officials of WHO Regional Office for the Western Pacific are coming too.
We see this conference a great opportunity to facilitate not only scholarly exchange but also engagement with policymakers and practitioners. It will also help strengthen the collaboration between WHO and HKUST, which may be of high value for the university given her strategic development in health sciences.
