Overview

Five years ago, Chinese President Xi Jinping announced what he called the “One Belt, One Road” plan, which today is commonly known as the “Belt and Road Initiative” (BRI). Here in Hong Kong interested parties have been discussing this major international initiative extensively, assessing its potential for fuelling economic growth and development through infrastructure construction and enhanced connectivity with over 70 countries along the overland Silk Road Economic Belt and the Maritime Silk Road. Yet, are we any clearer about the role that Hong Kong can or might play within the BRI? This three-day executive program brings together pre-eminent and wide-ranging speakers with deep expert knowledge in relevant fields to achieve clarity about Hong Kong’s potential role in the BRI. This program will delve beneath the surface to explore in considerable depth how Hong Kong’s strengths can be concretely leveraged to both contribute value to the BRI and reap real benefits here at home.

Objectives

  • Share a high-level overview of China’s BRI

  • Thoroughly examine opportunities through which Hong Kong can leverage its geographical, economic, and political position within China and the BRI

  • Understand and catalogue Hong Kong’s existing strengths that it can leverage to benefit, and benefit from, the BRI

  • Identify and analyze opportunities the BRI represents for Hong Kong and suggest agendas through which government actors and other stakeholders can help Hong Kong seize these opportunities

Who Should Attend

The program is designed for senior executives and professionals in the government, non-profit and private sectors who are interested in better understanding what the BRI entails and what its likely impacts will be and how it will create opportunities for Hong Kong businesses. Leaders of public and private companies engaged in international trade or investment as well as public officials who support Hong Kong businesses are likely to find the program particularly useful, as will leaders of any organization that interacts with counterparts in BRI countries.
