About IPP

A message from the Director

Welcome to the Institute for Public Policy at HKUST — a platform where scholars from across disciplines come together to address the policy challenges of our time.

Our work ranges from urban and regional innovation systems to green finance, from big data for public policy to climate risks and environmental governance. We are committed to producing rigorous, evidence-based research that informs decision-making in the public sector and prepares future generations of leaders for an ever-changing world.

Through sustained collaboration with scholars, policymakers, and practitioners across Asia and beyond, IPP continues to build a distinctive regional voice in global policy research — while staying firmly rooted in the opportunities and challenges of Hong Kong and the Greater Bay Area.

/ Overview

A platform for evidence-based policy research

IPP focuses on policy research that has significant potential impact on social, economic and environmental wellbeing.

Leveraging on the university's strengths in science, business, engineering and social science, IPP aims to promote interdisciplinary policy research as a means to tackle key policy challenges confronting Hong Kong, the mainland, and the region — such as ageing, environmental degradation, and social inequalities.

We pay particular attention to the impact of scientific developments and technological innovations on policy development, as well as opportunities to advance policy discourse through evidence-based approaches to policy-making.

To be a leading, forward-looking institute pioneering evidence-based public policy for sustainable prosperity, technological excellence, and resilient societies in an era of rapid innovation, environmental transformation, and demographic change
